More than 25 people enjoyed an afternoon of fun Sunday at an Alzheimer’s awareness rally held at the Oakmont of Santa Clarita, a new luxury senior housing facility under construction, in Valencia.

The afternoon event featured a bounce house for kids, face painting, food trucks, raffle prizes and live music.

Proceeds raise at the event will go to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association, said Margie Veis, executive director of the facility.

“This is our first community event, and it’s going really well,” Veis said. “We’re excited to be here and to be able to raise awareness for Alzheimer’s.”

The senior complex, which is scheduled to open early 2016, will be the home to 55 assisted living units and 22 units dedicated to memory care.

“Construction is going great,” Veis said. “Right now we are pre-leasing units and working on our wait list.”

The complex will mark the first time a senior housing complex has been opened in the Santa Clarita Valley in 14 years. Construction of the property began earlier this year.

Veis said the facility is scheduled to hold an open house at 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 26.
